Below is a quick overview to help you figure out which camp is best for your child:
- Camp Cruisin: Ages 6 – 12 (riders are split into groups based on age and skill); Level 4+; A great camp for anyone who loves exploring and having fun on their bike, but isn’t a hardcore rider or thrill seeker
- Lil’ Cruisers: Ages 5 – 8; Level 3+; An easy introduction to bike camp, for up-and-coming riders who know how to ride independently on two wheels, but aren’t up for the bigger rides of Camp Cruisin’
- Two Wheelers: Ages 5 – 8; Level 1 – 2; For total beginners, learn to ride on two wheels without the assistance of training wheels, or move up from a balance bike to a pedal bike!

Transfers & Changes
We now offer self-transfer services, accessible from within your Active account: https://campsself.active.com/wheelkidsbicycleclub Changing weeks after you’ve registered is possible if space is available. Requests to change your session must be submitted no less than four weeks prior to the start date of your currently registered session. Changing to a session/program that’s full will result in your name being placed on the wait-list in the order it was received – if space does not open in this case, no refund or credit will be provided. There is no cost to transfer sessions if requested or completed within 48 hours of registration, either via email request or using self-transfer services. After 48 hours from the time of your registration there is a $25 transfer fee, payable after the transfer is confirmed. After May 1, changes to open summer camp sessions will be assessed a transfer fee of $50, payable after transfer is confirmed.
Friends & Siblings
We will try to accommodate friends or siblings who wish to ride together. However, for safety’s sake we need to make sure everyone is riding in the best group for their ability or that more advanced riders know that they won’t be riding to their full potential if they want to stay with a friend or sibling who’s a less skilled rider. If you’re registering along with a friend for the same week(s) and wish to ride together, please let us know.
Wait List
If your desired week(s) fills prior to your registration please proceed with the Active registration process; once you’ve filled in the information you’ll be added to the wait list. Open spaces will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. If a space becomes available we will email you an invitation to enroll. If you decline or respond after 24 hours of notification you will be removed from the wait list for that particular week.
Enrollment & Attendance
We ask that every effort be made to have your child attend on the first day of the week when we review rules, get acquainted, and assess the skill level of all our riders.
Age Limits
We cannot make exceptions to our age limits.

Registered participants will be notified of cancellation due to insufficient registrations; a full refund will be provided. See Refunds page for refund policy for all other circumstances. A waitlist will be available once registration is full.
Sign up for the lunch option when you register for camp! The daily menu includes a sandwich, organic juice box, salty snack, cookie, and organic fruit or vegetable. The lunches will be dropped off daily and waiting for your camper each morning. Lunches are catered by Ham and Cheese Deli.

Richmond Summer camps are held at Richmond Playground (Two Wheelers Club and Lil Cruisers) and Rochambeau Playground (Camp Cruisin’ and Adventure Riding Club).
Two Wheelers Club
Ages 5 – 8
Learn to Ride
Two Wheelers Club is for kids who want to learn to ride, improve on their fundamentals, or gain the confidence and stamina needed for adventure riding. The emphasis of TWC is obtaining the balance and coordination needed to ride on two wheels, mastering starting, stopping, and controlled forward movement, and gaining confidence in riding skills before tackling the more challenging rides of Lil’ Cruisers or Camp Cruisin’.
Wheel Kids is an adventure exploration camp and our daily schedules are dynamic! Daily schedules are determined by coaches and our subject to change depending on group interests and ability levels. In addition to two wheel practice, campers can expect to explore San Francisco by foot, public bus, or, when they are ready, short trips on their bikes! Each session, Two Wheelers will take one “field trip” (usually on Thursdays) to Koret Children’s Playground to play and ride the Carousel!
Two-Wheeler’s Club is a full-day camp: Monday – Friday 8:30AM – 4:00PM, with optional aftercare from 4PM – 5:30PM (available at an additional cost).
This camp is open to riders Level 1 – 2, ages 5 – 8.
Bike Requirement: Properly fitting two-wheel pedal bike with either coaster or hand brake. Child must be able to easily touch their feet to the ground while seated. Single speed bikes are recommended at this level.
Once kids have successfully completed Two Wheelers Club they may continue their bicycling adventures by attending Lil’ Cruisers or Camp Cruisin’. When registering children age 6 to 8 in Two Wheelers, you may also register for later LC or CC weeks; however, Wheel Kids reserves the right to hold a child in Two Wheelers Club if his/her skills are not sufficient for LC or CC activities. Children age 5 are only eligible for our Two-Wheeler and Lil’ Cruiser programs.
Girls+ Weeks: Sessions 3 and 9 in the Richmond District are reserved for female and gender non-conforming campers only.

Lil’ Cruisers
Ages 5 – 8
For riders seeking adventure… but not THAT much adventure.
Each session, Lil’ Cruisers will embark on adventures daily cruising the local bike trails and paths, hitting up all our favorite playgrounds, and learning cycling etiquette, hand signals, and safe biking along the way! LC typically ride up to 6 miles a day. Each session, Lil’ Cruisers will take a field trip to a local museum (by bike) or to a local out of town destination by van. This is a fun introduction to Wheel Kids with all the things summer camp. Come Cruise with us!

Camp Cruisin’
Ages 6 – 12
For everyone that loves to ride their bike and seek outdoor adventure
Camp Cruisin’ (formerly Adventure Riding Camp) will challenge and inspire your child with unique bike rides and activities in San Francisco and beyond. CC kids are exposed to a variety of bicycle-based activities – daily bike rides, riding skills instruction, bike maintenance, on- and off-street safety skills, share-the-road etiquette, wayfinding, and lots of having fun and messing around on their bikes.
Wheel Kids is an adventure exploration camp and our daily schedules are dynamic! Daily schedules are determined by coaches and our subject to change depending on group interests and ability levels. CC groups ride both on and off road around local parks, slow streets and bike routes and lanes. Depending on a group’s ability level, typical CC rides range from 5-10+ miles a day, with stops at local museums, to go geocaching or play kickball, and more amazing adventures!
One day each session offers either an in or out-of-town field trip to an exciting local destination, while every day at CC is basically a field trip to somewhere. We’re always on the go: exploring, learning, and having fun.
Camp Cruisin’ is a full-day camp: Monday – Friday 8:30AM – 4:00PM, with optional aftercare from 4PM – 5:30PM (available at an additional cost).
This camp is open to riders Level 4 – 6 , ages 6 – 12. Riders will be split into groups based on age and skill level.
Bike Requirement: Properly fitting two-wheel pedal bike appropriate for both on and off road use with hand brakes. Gears are recommended at this level.
Girls+ Weeks: Sessions 3 and 9 in the Richmond District are reserved for female and gender non-conforming campers only.

Adventure Riding Camp
Ages 9 – 13
2 Week Sessions Offering Unique Bike Rides and Activities in San Francisco and Beyond
This year, our ARC camps will be two weeks long in order to allow for more riding time, as well as community and skill building. Each camp will do some variation of on and off road riding on quieter bike lanes and paths as well as busier urban roads. This year, Adventure Riding Club Camps take place over two session blocks:
Block 1 (Sessions 1 and 2): June 9 – June 20
Block 2 (Sessions 5 and 6): July 7 – July 18
Block 3 (Sessions 7 and 8): July 21 – August 1
Block 4 (Sessions 9 and 10): August 4 – August 15Each block has a riding area of focus – see session descriptions for more information.
Wheel Kids is an adventure exploration camp; daily schedules are determined by coaches and are subject to change depending on group interests and ability levels. Adventure Riding Camp offers a dynamic experience for older, more experienced Riders. The goal of ARC is not only to enhance on- and off-road technical abilities, but also to emphasize the safety and enjoyment of our riders. ARC campers participate in advanced rides around San Francisco and beyond. ARC riders will experience a broad range of riding surfaces, from city streets and multi-use paths to off-road trails and technical singletrack. ARC rides may involve “taking the lane” of a shared street in addition to riding bike paths and routes. Coaches will work with campers on a wide variety of skills, including scanning and signaling, lane position, pedestrian interaction, efficient climbing and descending, gearing selection and pedaling cadence, technical trail riding, obstacle avoidance, jumps/drops, bike maintenance and trail-side repair, and group riding techniques and etiquette.
Adventure Riding Camp caters to older, more experienced riders. A prerequisite for participation is a high comfort level on bikes and the necessary skills and mental focus required for big days on the bike. ARC participants can expect long/moderate or short/steep climbs, the potential for 15+ miles daily, and occasional requirements to carry bikes up/down stairs or other obstacles.
Bike Requirement: Properly fitting two-wheel pedal bike appropriate for both on and off-road use. Front and rear hand brakes & gears required. Wider (at least 2 in) tires and flat handlebars are recommended.
Block 1 (Sessions 1 and 2): June 9 – June 20: Trail Riding Focus: Ready to pop a wheelie? This camp is for the shredders out there! Over our two weeks together, we’ll put an emphasis on riding trails in San Francisco and beyond. Far from a traditional “mountain bike” camp, these two weeks will be all about adventure and exploration on roads and trails with a focus on building off-road skills. There’s lots of dirt to be found nearby, and we’ll also take field trips in our van to China Camp in San Rafael and Joaquin Miller Park in Oakland. Other potential destinations include: McLaren Bike Park, Golden Gate Park, Mt Sutro and Laguna Honda trail networks, the Ferry Building, Aquatic Park, Marin Headlands, and more!
Block 2: (Sessions 5 and 6): July 7 – July 18: Bikes and Transit Focus: Bikes and public transportation go hand in hand, and over these two weeks we’ll explore all the ways we can get around by combining transit and bikes! We’ll take a BART trip to Oakland and visit the Oakland Museum of California, check out the cable car museum and ride a cable car, and ride our bikes to the Ferry in Marin. We’ll also get a chance to hear from a real life Urban Planner and take a trip north to ride the Smart Train to Petaluma! This promises to be two weeks of unforgettable fun on bikes, ferries, and trains!
Block 3 (Sessions 7 and 8) – July 21 – August 1: Urban Riding Focus: This camp is for those that love to cruise on pavement! We’ll focus on important urban riding skills like taking a lane, scanning/signaling and lane position in busier urban environments. We’ll explore bike infrastructure around the city and talk about what makes it good and what could make it better. Destinations may include: the “green wave” on North Beach Street, the Wiggle and Page Slow street. This camp is a great fit for campers who are confident in their riding skills and ready take on busier city streets. There will also be plenty of opportunities for classic Wheel Kids shenanigans, like checking out trails and local parks! This camp also includes a field trip down to the Hellyer Velodrome in San Jose as well an opportunity to take the Ferry back to the city from Marin!
Block 4: (Sessions 9 and 10): August 4 – August 15: Bike Camping Focus: This block will culminate in a 3 day, 2 night camping trip to Angel Island! In addition to lots of riding, our first week will be spent together learning camping skills like setting up a tent, preparing food in a camp kitchen, and reading a map. Campers will help us plan our trip menu and our route. During the second week, we’ll load up our bikes full of gear, hop a Ferry to Angel Island, and spend a few days hanging out, riding bikes and playing on the Island before heading back to camp. Wheel Kids will provide meals and basic camping equipment for the trip; campers will need to provide their own sleeping bags, sleeping pads and a way to carry their stuff. There are many lower cost options (including rentals) for hauling gear on a bike, and more details will be sent out after registration to help families find the correct gear.
