SUMMER 2021
** RICHMOND DISTRICT SPECIAL REGISTRATION **
Hey Richmond District! Thanks for letting us share your neighborhood! We have a limited time, limited quantity enrollment just for you.
Special registration is now closed. You can register via that program tabs below or on our general Pop-Up Camps page
For residents of zip codes 94121 and 94118 ONLY
The information below is our current best guess at how summer 2021 will look. This page may be updated as more information is available from the City/County.
New for 2021
- Two Pop-Up options
- MTB Camp: a mountain bike camp in SF! Riders will be able to hone mtb skills and ride the City’s cool trails. Yep, mtb riding in SF!
- City Cycling: a get-around-town-on-your-bike camp. Riders will explore SF in detail, from edge to edge and most everything in between. Kind of like being tourists in our own city, but not as clueless.
- Expanded age range: we’re opening Pop-Up to rising 5th – 9th grades. Advanced skill level required.
- Try it out in advance: join a winter or spring MTB or City Cycling afterschool class.
14 June through 13 August, 2021
WHAT’S A POP-UP CAMP???
It’s the go-to place to ride with your friends and learn advanced cycling skills
- Lots of cool riding!
- FOR INTERMEDIATE & ADVANCED RIDERS
- No clubhouse
- No bike parking
Pop-Up Camp is for older, more experienced riders. Ride some new or old favorite routes in San Francisco, work on advanced skills development and refinement, and experience more challenging daily rides and field trip adventures.
Pop-Up Camp is for high LEVEL 5 through LEVEL 6 RIDERS ONLY, entering Grade 5 through 9. Not sure? Contact us before registering.
15+ miles daily is normal, with 20+ miles likely. Challenging climbs are typical (even sought-out). On- and off-street riding occurs daily.
All gender orientations welcome.
For lower skill levels and younger ages, see our Adventure Riding Camp and Two Wheelers Club pages.
These camps are truly pop-ups: we’re on site for sign-in and sign-out and gone the rest of the day. Bikes and all personal belongings must be brought and taken away daily.
PROGRAMS & DETAILS
Registration Process
We encourage use of the Payment Plan option found within the online registration process. Due to possible pandemic-related uncertainties about 2021 summer camp operations, paying a deposit and waiting for later full payment may make potential refunds or program changes more manageable.
Please read the entire Registration documentation once you enter the online ActivityHero system. The waiver and prompts may clarify some questions before you register. We assume all registration details are understood by all registering families. See also the How To Register section in the program tabs.
Discounts & Financial Aid
Sibling enrolled in the same week: 10% discount.
One, 50% scholarship is available per session. Advance registration for scholarship is necessary through ActivityHero.
Refunds
Click here for our general refund policy. Program-specific details:
- Notification deadline: Refund requests must be received four weeks or more prior to the beginning of the session
- A 7.5% administrative fee will be withheld from any eligible refunds
- See general refund policy for other withholdings
- Withdrawal from camp during the Session, for whatever reason, will not be refunded
- Registrations from outside 94121 or 94118 zip codes will not be refunded.
Transfers & Changes
Changing sessions after you’ve registered is possible if space is available. Changing to a session that’s full will result in your name being placed on the wait list in the order it was received – if space does not open in this case, no refund or credit will be provided. After May 1, changes to open sessions will be assessed a transfer fee of $40, payable before transfer is confirmed.
Friends & Siblings
Pop-Up camps are comprised of a single group of riders, therefore all riders must be of compatible skill level. If your child wishes to ride with a sibling or friend be sure their skills are comparable and acceptable for this camp.
Wait List
If you see “Join Waitlist” in the Registration link below that session has filled but you can add your child’s name to the wait list. Open spaces will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. We don’t know if openings will become available, but if a space opens we will begin contacting wait list families immediately in order of registration. If you decline or respond after 24 hours of notification you will be removed from the wait list for that particular week.
Enrollment & Attendance
All participants must attend the first week of the session, per City/County of SF requirements; participation will not be allowed for kids not in attendance during the first week of the session. We do not provide a pro-rated registration fee for partial-session enrollment.
Registration Records
Please try to complete your child’s online registration records in full when registering. You have an option to complete records later. However, records not complete by 15 May may result in cancellation of your registration and loss of 20% of your registration fee in the cancellation refund.
Age/Grade Limits
We cannot make exceptions to our skills and grade limits. Ineligible registrations may be cancelled with no refund.
Minimum registration of 9 participants per week required. Registered participants will be notified of cancellation due to insufficient registrations; a full refund will be provided. See Refunds page for refund policy. A waitlist will be available once registration is full.
The Urban Cycling Pop-Up Camp focuses on improving city cycling skills by emphasizing safe street riding practices, pedestrian interaction / multi-use trail etiquette, gearing/cadence/stamina for longer distance riding, on-street safety practices, rail track crossing, urban wayfinding using maps & apps, bike handling, helmet fit, and bike readiness/maintenance. The camp also will feature opportunities to learn about SF history, culture, and infrastructure while engaged in city-wide bike rides. All three pop-up locations provide access to a wide range of San Francisco riding, including the entire shoreline from Mission Bay to Fort Point, the Golden Gate Bridge to Fort Funston; cross-town excursions through SOMA/Market St., Polk/Civic Center, the Wiggle, the Mission, Twin Peaks, the Sunset, and beyond. We’ll also cross the Golden Gate Bridge to ride the Headlands and Sausalito. Basically, we’ll go as far as each group can go in a day. If possible, one field trip across the Bay by ferry or BART will occur each session.
Participants must be comfortable riding a multi-speed bike, have intermediate to advanced knowledge of using gears, have sufficient stamina and strength for longer rides, and come prepared to listen to and participate in skills instruction and practice.
